As a curly haired girl going chemical free, I face many problems. One of them is finding a chem-free curl scrunch/gel to tame my curls and add shine. Store bought gels have alcohol, silicon, and many other bad chemicals that will dry out your hair. So I hit Pinterest and found this easy solution. I’m in L-O-V-E! It makes my curls bouncy, shiny, and soft, and doesn’t cause build up. So here is my flaxseed hair gel recipe!
First, boil 2 cups of water. Then turn your stove down to a simmer.
Now, Add 4 tablespoons of flaxseeds and simmer for ten minuets. It should look like gel by then, sorta mucus-like (ew)
It should look like this after 10 minutes
Now strain out the flaxseeds into your container with a fine strainer. I have also heard of people doing this with nylons.
Now let your gel cool! When it is cool, you may choose to add some things to it (optional) Like: essential oils, coconut oils, shea butter, vitamin e-oil, ect.
Now store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks! To apply, rub some on your palms and scrunch through damp hair.

A problem that many girls face is greasy hair. For me, it wasn’t much of a problem until I decided to go no-poo. Now, I’m smack dab in the transition phase and it’s grease town over here. Sadly, America doesn’t accept people with greasy locks, and it is definitely not a good look. Dry shampoo to the rescue! Most store- bought brands are loaded with dangerous chemicals, not to mention the outrageous price! What is a chemical- free girl to do? Make her own, of course!
1 part cornstarch
1 part baking soda
Simply put in a shaker, mix and label!
How to use:
Sprinkle a little on the roots of your hair after giving yourself a quick scalp massage. Let sit for a minute so it gets absorbed. Now, gently tousle your hair to get rid of any powder.

- Sleep on a silk pillowcase: seriously! It doesn’t dry your hair out and prevents bed head.
-Go no-poo or low-poo or water only. Chem- free curls mean beautiful curls
-For frizz free curls, gently scrunch your hair with a t-shirt
-Do a moisturizing hair mask every week! This delivers the correct amount of moisture to keep your locks healthy
-lay off the heat! Learn to accept your curls
-put coconut oil on the ends of your hair so they aren’t so damaged
Best haircuts for curly hair: I want Zooey Dechanel’s blunt bangs or Kim K’s sleek pony as much as the next girl, but sadly I have curly hair. Chin up, buttercup! Curly hair has it’s own arrangement of cute styles to rock.
Short: to avoid the triangle look, go for face-framing layers and a long bob.
Medium: if you want layers for definition, keep em long. Add some tapered, long bangs if you want.
Long: go for a v shaped cut, with long v shaped layers. It will add subtle definition

“mint chip” protein smoothie
5-6 Plain almonds
1/4 cup almond milk
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
A squirt of honey (depending how sweet you prefer)
1-2 ice cubes
1 handful of spinach
1-2 drops peppermint extract
1/2 frozen banana
Blend and enjoy!
